It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Professor Peter McKie, former Chair of the Qubis Board, whose wisdom, integrity, and dedication left an enduring mark on our company and our community.
Professor McKie’s remarkable career began at DuPont in Northern Ireland in 1959, when he stepped aboard a plane to the United States to learn about the manufacture of Neoprene - the material that would set the machines rolling at the Maydown plant. A chemistry graduate of Queen’s University Belfast, he was one of the pioneering group of chemists and engineers who shaped DuPont’s early success in the region. Over the years, he went on to serve as Plant Manager, consultant, and later Chair of the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland.
As Chair of the Qubis Board, Peter brought not only his deep technical expertise but also a generous spirit, sharp mind, and steady hand. He approached every challenge with thoughtfulness and conviction, and his counsel was valued by all who had the privilege to work alongside him.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and former colleagues. Professor McKie will be remembered with respect, gratitude, and affection for a lifetime of contributions to industry, safety, and innovation.
