After two and a half decades of dedication and impact, David Moore is stepping down from QUBIS Ltd - marking the end of a significant chapter in the region’s innovation ecosystem.
A Career of Building Bridges Between Research and Enterprise
During his tenure at QUBIS, David has been central to numerous success stories, guiding inventions and university research into high-growth, venture-backed businesses. In his role as Head of Spin-Outs & Investments, he took on Non-Executive Board positions across multiple spin-out ventures, applying his deep experience in shepherding technology companies from inception to exit.
His ability to navigate the complexities of early-stage investment, scale-up and exit strategies has shaped QUBIS’s reputation as an effective translation engine for university-led innovation.
Notable Contributions & Milestones
David was involved from pre-incorporation though to successful exit with a number of the QUBIS portfolio companies including Avalon Instruments, TruCorp, PathXL and TitanIC.
David was also involved in the Fusion Antibodies journey from start up through to IPO as both an NED and Company Secretary.
David has also acted as the QUBIS nominee NED to companies such as Nuada, EventMap, Causeway Sensors, Univ8 Genomics and Bia Analytical among others.
These examples underscore that his influence has extended well beyond internal QUBIS operations.
A Track Record Before QUBIS
David’s foundation in tech and business dates back to roles prior to joining QUBIS:
He worked for the small firm regional development agency focused on high-growth, export-oriented technology enterprises, helping to catalyse scale-up in the tech sector.
He began his career within the defence industry, giving him technical discipline and domain experience that inform his strategic investment judgment.
This blend of technical grounding and regional development experience has likely been a differentiator in his contributions at QUBIS.
Looking Ahead & Gratitude
Reflecting on his departure, David offered:
“It has been a privilege to work alongside both the many exceptional entrepreneurs within the QUBIS portfolio and with various team and Board members through these years. Seeing ideas develop into successful businesses that make a real impact to the NI economy has been incredibly rewarding.”
The entire QUBIS, Queen’s, and wider R&D community extend heartfelt thanks to David for his leadership, mentorship, and vision over the past 25 years. As he moves on, his legacy will live on through the companies and entrepreneurs he has helped to nurture.
We look forward to sharing news of QUBIS’s next steps and how his successor (or successors) will build on this foundation.
